Proseguendo nel nostro percorso all' interno dell'area arriviamo poi al vero “Campo di Piedra Pomez” che ha una estensione di circa 25 kmq. Siamo ad un'altitudine di circa 3.000 mt. con passi intorno ai 4,500 metri. E' questo un posto considerato UNICO al mondo. E' uno straordinario scenario, composto da oltre 5.000 formazioni di pietra pomice. Si tratta di un'aera desertica di grande interesse geologico, nata dalla SOLIDIFICAZIONE della cenere di pomice versata dall' intensa attività dei vulcani circostanti, poi modellata dal vento fino a trasformarla in un gigantesco tappeto di pietre leggere e porose. Un vero e proprio museo vulcanico a cielo aperto, dichiarato area naturale protetta dal governo argentino nel 2012. La testimonianza di un mondo singolare, dove la natura è sempre l'unica e vera protagonista della creazione di capolavori unici e sorprendenti . In questo infinito campo di sculture ci si trova all' interno di uno dei più affascinanti angoli dell'Argentina, in uno dei paesaggi più remoti e suggestivi del nostro pianeta.

Cerco di rispondere alla tua richiesta per quel che posso.
Tenuto conto che la Puna è una zona desertica e che ad agosto siamo in pieno inverno con temperature molto rigide (anche diversi gradi sotto zero ) ti posso parlare di ciò che abbiamo potuto vedere:
Per quanto riguarda la fauna: nelle zone completamente desertiche: vigogne in grande quantità dovunque, qualche falco (per cui presumo la presenza almeno di roditori e forse qualche serpentello),qualche nandù
Nelle zone prospicienti le lagune (anche se quasi completamente ghiacciate) : vigogne, qualche fenicottero , qualche anatide, pernici argentine, nandù,qualche volpe, asini selvatici.
Sono comunque presenti, anche se praticamente invisibili, sia il puma che l'ancor più raro “gatto andino”.
Nella loro estate invece le lagune sono l'habitat per numerose colonie di fenicotteri, di anatidi e di altre specie di volatili.
Per quanto riguarda la flora le uniche piante presenti credo siano quegli arbusti gialli (di cui non ricordo il nome) che si vedono nelle foto e che in estate invece sono verdeggianti.
Per gli insetti non so dirti niente.
