Nel cuore del Salar de Arizaro, il sesto salar più grande al mondo e il secondo più esteso dell'Argentina, si erge una delle meraviglie geologiche più affascinanti della Puna Argentina : il Cono Arita. Questa straordinaria formazione naturale, con la sua forma conica quasi perfetta, sembra appartenere a un paesaggio alieno, un luogo che unisce scienza, natura e mistero. Situato nella provincia di Salta, a circa 70 chilometri dal remoto villaggio di Tolar Grande, il Cono Arita si trova a un'altitudine di circa 3.600 metri sul livello del mare, circondato dalla vastità del deserto salato. Il Cono Arita non è un vulcano attivo, anche se la sua forma e posizione potrebbero farlo pensare. Gli studiosi ritengono che la sua origine sia legata a un'antica attività vulcanica, seguita da millenni di modellamento naturale che hanno scolpito questa struttura fino a conferirle la sua simmetria straordinaria. Il suo nome deriva dal quechua e significa “filo sottile” o “punta”, un chiaro riferimento alla sua forma slanciata e inconfondibile.
