Aveiro è una città incantevole situata lungo la costa atlantica del centro del Portogallo, circa a metà strada tra Porto e Coimbra. È conosciuta come la “Venezia del Portogallo”, ma conserva un carattere tutto suo, dove acqua, luce e colore si fondono in un'atmosfera tranquilla e autentica. Il cuore di Aveiro è attraversato da una rete di canali lagunari collegati alla Ria de Aveiro, un'estesa laguna salmastra che influenza la vita della città da secoli. Lungo questi canali navigano i moliceiros, imbarcazioni tradizionali simili a gondole, un tempo usate per la raccolta di alghe marine (moliço).
