Tra la valle Sesia e la valle Anzasca, sull'alpe Selle di Baranca (1800 metri slm), si ergono i suggestivi ruderi di Villa Aprilia, una meta affascinante che conquista per la sua isolata posizione e per la storia che racchiude. E' stata progettata dall'architetto borgosesiano Costantino Gilodi nel 1908, figura di spicco del periodo della belle époque in Valsesia. Il celebre "villino Gilodi" vantava un ampio giardino, abbellito da un suggestivo terrapieno, una graziosa fontana e un sofisticato impianto idraulico e di riscaldamento. Non mancavano nemmeno i terrazzamenti che ospitavano una varietà di piante, un vero e proprio giardino alpino secondo la visione di Gilodi. Dopo la scomparsa dell'architetto, la dimora passò nelle mani della famiglia Lancia, di Vincenzo, in particolare, il capostipite, che in omaggio al famoso modello automobilistico decise di ribattezzarla "Aprilia". Il colle di Baranca, lì nei pressi, era zona strategica di passaggio. Nel 1858 vi transitavano i principi di Savoia, nel 1859 reparti dell'esercito piemontese impegnati nella seconda guerra d'indipendenza. Nell'autunno del 1943 passarono di qui, diretti verso la Svizzera, soldati alleati e famiglie di origine ebrea, con la guida di antifascisti valsesiani. Dal gennaio del 1944 il Baranca divenne fondamentale per i partigiani e l'attività della Resistenza. All'alpe Selle e nella villa Aprilia si installarono, con l'implicito accordo dei Lancia, squadre di partigiani provenienti dalla Valsesia, dal Cusio, dalle città della pianura, reduci dai primi combattimenti contro i nazifascisti nella media Valsesia. Dal Baranca i partigiani partivano per effettuare audaci attacchi, tra cui l'assalto al presidio fascista di Pontegrande. Nell'aprile del 1944 i fascisti occuparono e devastarono Fobello, poi attaccarono la base partigiana al Baranca. Qui distrussero delle baite e, soprattutto, Villa Aprilia che venne pure incendiata. Nonostante ciò, la zona rimase sempre, per tutto il periodo della Resistenza, un prezioso rifugio soprattutto per i partigiani della “Strisciante Musati”, comandata da Pietro Rastelli, detto “Pedar”. Terminato quel momento storico l'edificio è stato abbandonato del tutto e, compure resti ancora di proprietà della famiglia Lancia, versa nello stato in cui si vede in foto, praticamente diruto e pericolante nelle strutture che non sono ancora crollate.
