Il Lazzaretto di Ancona, detto anche Mole Vanvitelliana, sorge su di un'isola artificiale pentagonale. Originariamente non aveva ponti di collegamento alla terraferma in modo da garantire un completo isolamento delle persone giunte dal mare e che vi scontavano la quarantena sanitaria, in modo da prevenire la diffusione in città di epidemie. Oggi è un polo culturale, sede di un museo, di un auditorium, di eventi culturali e di mostre d'arte.
