Oggi... 1° maggio 2025... ricorre il 31° anniversario della scomparsa di Ayrton Senna da Silva. Anche noto come "Magic" era nato a San Paolo in Brasile il 21 marzo 1960 ed aveva avuto le prime esperienze pistaiole con i kart nel 1973 poi... impegnandosi sempre in categorie superiori... e dopo alcuni test su vetture messe a disposizione prima da Frank Williams e poi dalla McLaren nel corso del 1983... era approdato a gareggiare stabilmente in Formula 1 nel 1984 alla conduzione di una vettura ufficiale della Toleman motorizzata Hart. In questa massima categoria vinse i Campionati del Mondo nel 1988, nel 1990 e nel 1991... sempre a bordo di vetture McLaren motorizzate Honda. Nella sua carriera... in questa che è la massima formula... disputò 161 Gran Premi vincendone 41 e partendo in pole position 65 volte. Perse la vita domenica 1° maggio 1994... durante lo svolgimento del Gran Premio di San Marino sul Circuito del Santerno dedicato ad Enzo e Dino Ferrari ad Imola (Bo)... a causa di un guasto meccanico che lo fece uscire di pista alla curva del Tamburello mentre la vettura procedeva ad elevata velocità. Era alla guida di una Williams FW16 motorizzata Renault. Quel Gran Premio di San Marino era già stato nefasto fino da venerdì 29 aprile quando… durante le prove libere… il brasiliano Rubens Gonçalves Barrichello era uscito di pista alla Variante Bassa con la sua Jordan motorizzata Hart procurandosi diverse fratture che non gli permetteranno di disputare il Gran Premio in corso: da ricordare che Senna... suo connazionale e mentore… andò a rincuorarlo in ospedale. Poi... sabato 30 aprile... durante le prove di qualificazione... la vettura Simtek motorizzata Ford Cosworth dell'austriaco Roland Ratzenberger uscì di pista alla curva Villeneuve... dopo il distacco di una parte di uno degli alettoni anteriori... facendogli perdere la vita a 33 anni. Infine… domenica 1° maggio… alla partenza la Benetton a motore Ford del finlandese Jyrki Juhani Järvilehto... più noto come J. J. Letho... rimase ferma ed il portoghese José Pedro Mourão Nunes Lamy Viçoso... meglio conosciuto come Pedro Lamy... non accortosi della cosa la tamponò violentemente con la sua Lotus Mugen motorizzata Honda così che diverse parti delle due vetture volarono ovunque compresa la tribuna centrale dove tra gli spettatori vi saranno 3 feriti più uno molto grave che colpito da una ruota rimarrà in coma per tre giorni. Poi… al 7° giro… sarà Ayrton ad uscire di pista… e pure dalla vita terrena. Riportata ai box dopo l'incidente… dentro alla sua Williams FW16... che portava il numero di gara 2... verrà trovata una bandiera austriaca che Ayrton "Magic" avrebbe voluto sventolare all'arrivo per ricordare e onorare il collega Roland Ratzenberger che aveva perso la vita il giorno precedente. La fotografia qui visibile è stata scannerizzata da negativo colore Kodak e fu scattata con una fotocamera Canon F1 New dotata di ottica Canon FD 300 f 2,8 L. Il tempo di scatto fu con altissima probabilità di 1/500... quasi una regola per simili scatti a quei tempi con un teleobiettivo mentre... tutti i dati di scatto che compaiono stampati sotto alla fotografia non sono da tenere in considerazione. La piccola immagine inserita sulla destra in alto raffigura parte del monumento dedicato ad Ayrton che si trova sul Circuito del Santerno ad Imola in zona Tamburello dove "Magic" ebbe il fatale incidente.
