Un francolino collo o gola gialla, uccello della famiglia dei Fasianidi, originario dell'Africa orientale, pronto al decollo. Che poi, in realtà, non farà… Vive abitualmente in coppie o piccoli gruppi. Preferisce rimanere al riparo della vegetazione ma, al mattino presto e alla sera, si avventura in spazi aperti. Segue spesso grandi mammiferi come gli elefanti - ce n'erano in effetti molti nei paraggi - e fruga nelle loro deiezioni alla ricerca di semi che non sono stati digeriti.
