Il fiore di ciliegio è il fiore di uno dei diversi alberi del genere Prunus, in particolare del ciliegio giapponese, il Prunus serrulata, che talvolta viene chiamato sakura. Molte varietà di questo genere, che vengono coltivate per uso ornamentale, non producono frutti. Intorno alla metà del mese di marzo, al Parco Lago dell'EUR inizia la fioritura dei Sakura o Ciliegi giapponesi, che Tokyo donò a Roma nel 1959 come simbolo dell'amicizia tra i due paesi. Lungo il laghetto inoltre, sono stati piantati altri ciliegi nel novembre 2019. Durante questo periodo si festeggia la loro meravigliosa fioritura come si usa fare in Giappone.
