Dicembre 2024: un gipeto adulto si è appena involato, dopo essersi nutrito della carcassa di una cerva. Mi avvicino al corpo dell'animale, ma non trovo segni di predazione né tracce dei lupi nei dintorni. È probabile che si tratti di un esemplare ferito durante la stagione venatoria, non recuperato o non ritrovato dal cacciatore. Per i grandi rapaci, nutrirsi di carcasse di animali feriti o morti durante la caccia è particolarmente pericoloso. Molte munizioni da caccia contengono piombo, che, se ingerito, può causare il saturnismo, un avvelenamento letale. Questo disturbo colpisce gravemente i rapaci, compromettendo il sistema nervoso e causando debolezza, disorientamento, paralisi e, in molti casi, la morte. Il piombo è altamente tossico anche in piccole quantità e rappresenta una delle principali minacce per la sopravvivenza di specie come il gipeto e l'aquila.
