Colias crocea, (Geoffroy, 1785) - Famiglia Pieridae - Sottofamiglia Coliadinae - Apertura alare: Da 3,7 a 5,5 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni, isole comprese. - Habitat: Essendo migratrice può essere rinvenuta in tutti gli ambienti, dal livello del mare sino a oltre 2000 m. - Periodo di volo: Polivoltina con tre o quattro sfarfallamenti che si accavallano da aprile ad ottobre. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie leguminose dei generi Medicago, Trifolium, Onobrychis, Lotus, Coronilla, Hippocrepis, Astragalus, ecc. - Dimorfismo sessuale: La femmina presenta delle macchie chiare all'interno della fascia nera che contorna le ali. - Variazioni: L'ottanta per cento delle femmine presenta la stessa colorazione arancione del maschio, ma nel restante 20% la colorazione è tendente al bianco, leggermente verdastra: forma helice. Raramente si incontrano esemplari con una colorazione intermedia arancione tendente al giallo. - Specie simili: Le femmine chiare si distinguono da quelle di C. alfacariensis e C. hyale per l'ampia velatura scura sul diritto delle ali posteriori e per la banda scura di quelle anteriori che giunge fino al bordo interno.
