Due giovani leoni, un maschio e una femmina, sbucano dalla vegetazione secca dell'arido Kgalagadi, nel nord del Sudafrica a ridosso del Botswana, di fatto la frazione meridionale del “deserto” del Kalahari. Siamo nel pieno di una stagione più secca che mai. Il giorno è iniziato da poco e colora ogni cosa di una luce dorata con sfumature rosa. Il resto del branco non dev'essere lontano, forse impegnato a cacciare o impigrito sotto qualche albero, ma per i due giovani questo è il momento dell'esplorazione, delle scoperte e dei giochi.
