La Fontana del Timone si trova a Roma sulla sponda sinistra del Tevere di fronte all'antico Porto di Ripa Grande, nel rione Ripa. La Fontana del Timone viene realizzata in travertino su disegno dell'architetto Pietro Lombardi intorno al 1930 ed è addossata al Complesso monumentale di San Michele a Ripa Grande, edificato tra la fine del 1600 e l'inizio del 1700 per volontà della famiglia Odescalchi con la funzione di orfanotrofio e successivamente di carcere minorile. A tal riguardo la Fontana del Timone raffigura il timone di una nave, simbolo del rione Ripa, sebbene ricada nel rione Trastevere. La fontana è composta principalmente da un timone, dal quale prende il nome, e da una barra dalla quale fuoriesce l'acqua che viene raccolta in una piccola vaschetta sospesa, a forma circolare. Ai lati si trovano due maniglie dalle quali sgorga l'acqua a sua volta raccolta in piccole vasche incastonate nel terreno. Nella parte alta della fontana, coincidente con la ruota di un timone, compare lo stemma del rione Ripa, mentre altri due stemmi con il simbolo del Comune di Roma, SPQR, si trovano ai lati del timone, e in alto, in posizione centrale, è collocato un terzo stemma a volute.
