Le ghiandaie marine terricole (Brachipteraciidi) sono una famiglia di uccelli Coraciiformi che comprende cinque diverse specie tutte endemiche del Madagascar. Sono uccelli di media-taglia con livree variopinte, dotati di zampe relativamente lunghe e ali poco sviluppate in quanto prevalentemente terricoli, poco abili nel volo, particolarmente timidi ed elusivi, prediligono le parti più fitte e buie delle foreste, si nutrono di insetti e piccoli rettili e nidificano in buche scavate nel terreno. La Short-legged Ground Roller (Brachypteracias leptosomus) è più arboricola delle altre ghiandaie marine terricole. La specie è considerata in pericolo di estinzione (VU) a causa della rapida perdita dell'habitat causata dalla pratica agricola del taglia-e-brucia (debbio) e dai cambiamenti climatici.
