Apatura iris (Linné, 1758) - Famiglia Nymphalidae - Sottofamiglia Apaturinae - Apertura alare: Da 6,2 a 7,8 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Localizzata, ma presente in tutto l'arco alpino. - Habitat: Boschi e foreste di latifoglie, da 100 a 1400 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da fine giugno ai primi di agosto. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Salix caprea, Salix aurita e Salix cinerea. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina di dimensioni maggiori, leggermente più chiara, non cangiante e con bande bianche più larghe. - Specie simili: Apatura ilia da cui si distingue facilmente negli esemplari fulvi di questa, ma si può confondere con quelli scuri. In questi casi A. ilia presenta l'ocello sul diritto dell'ala anteriore che, anche se più piccolo, è ben visibile in quanto contornato di fulvo e la banda bianca delle ali posteriori con contorni meno netti e senza la punta bianca verso l'esterno davanti alla terza nervatura mediana.
