Prime ore del mattino. Fa molto freddo ad agosto nel Kgalagadi, nel nord del Sudafrica. D'altra parte, qui siamo in pieno inverno… La notte la temperatura è intorno allo zero ma poi, durante il giorno, sale fino a 27/28 gradi. Siamo nella stagione secca e tutto è giallo intorno a noi. L'aria è satura della polvere che ogni refolo di vento solleva e che rimane a galleggiare a lungo, sfumando i contorni di ogni cosa. Un raggio di sole l'attraversa e tinge tutto di rosa e di oro, mentre un giovane leone sbuca dai cespugli.
