Pubblico questa foto di Amanita muscaria anche per mettere in guardia i cercatori dalle variazioni d'aspetto che può subire un fungo rispetto alle immagini che compaiono sui libri o manuali d'identificazione. In questo caso l'esemplare è visibilmente disidratato e ha perso sia il colore originario, sia parte delle verruche sul cappello, che caratterizzano l'immagine classica della muscaria. Qui assomiglia addirittura all'Amanita caesarea (l'ovolo buono), ma si distingue facilmente dal gambo, che nella caesarea è giallo e non bianco.
