Una delle più belle e maestose antilopi africane, possente ed elegante, il kudu è presente ma non numeroso nel Kgalagadi, grande parco semi-arido che si sviluppa tra Sudafrica e Botswana, a sud del Kalahari. Incontrare questo bel maschio, con le sue perfette corna a spirale, proprio quando stiamo per lasciare il Kgalagadi, è quindi una graditissima sorpresa. Tanto più perché, al minimo rumore, il kudu è solito scomparire in mezzo alla boscaglia. Come un fantasma. Il “fantasma grigio” immortalato da Hemingway in “Verdi colline d'Africa”.
