Libelloides macaronius: E' una specie di Neurotteri e appartiene alla famiglia delle Ascalaphidae. L'adulto è un grosso insetto che ricorda in qualche modo una libellula . Il corpo, gli occhi e le lunghe antenne bastonate sono neri; le ali sono di colore giallo brillante, macchiate di nero, le ali anteriori sono parzialmente trasparenti vicino alle punte delle ali. L'addome termina con un paio di fermagli uncinati nel maschio, un corto ovopositore nella femmina. A riposo, gli adulti spesso si posano come libellule con le ali spiegate. Volano rapidamente e piuttosto dritti sull'erba o sui cespugli. La specie si trova nell'Europa centrale, orientale e meridionale e nell'Asia paleartica . Vivono in aree relativamente aperte come prati e pascoli agricoli e praterie selvagge e boscaglie selvagge. Gli adulti sono predatori diurni veloci che usano le gambe per catturare la preda in volo. Hanno mandibole robuste, in grado di perforare gli esoscheletri di prede fortemente sclerotizzate . Si nutrono di un'ampia varietà di altri insetti tra cui afidi, coleotteri, insetti emitteri, scarafaggi, mosche ditteri e neurotteri. Sono predati da uccelli e ragni insettivori.
