Qualche giorno fa, durante la mia esplorazione notturna, ho visto su un rametto di pero questo bellissimo e particolare bruco. Quella notte la temperatura era più bassa del solito, c'era molta umidità e un leggero vento, mentre lo fotografavo ha cominciato anche a piovere. Sono rimasto ad osservarlo per più di due ore mentre lui, per niente spaventato dalla mia presenza, continuava a mangiare la foglia di pero a cui si era aggrappato. L' Acronicta psi è una falena della famiglia Noctuidae, compie due generazioni all'anno, in primavera e a fine estate. I bruchi hanno delle macchie arancioni ai lati del corpo e una striscia gialla sulla schiena. Tutto il corpo è ricoperto da lunghi peli bianchi, sul torace e sull'addome hanno due corni neri, quello sul torace è più grande e riconoscibile. Si nutrono di foglie e sono polifagi, io li ho osservati su pero e pruno, ma si adattano facilmente a tante altre specie di piante. Trascorrono tutta la loro vita sui rami bassi delle piante nutrici e quando sono cresciuti li abbandonano per prepararsi alla metamorfosi nel terreno. L'adulto ha abitudini notturne e vola per tutta l'estate, si nutre di nettare e contribuisce anche all'impollinzione. Il corpo è marrone chiaro con quattro strisce nere sulle ali che sono simili alla lettera greca psi, da cui prende il nome.
