Sono passate già 3 settimane da quando ho cominciato le mie esplorazioni notturne e nonostante le continue piogge degli ultimi giorni non mi sono fermato. C'è molta umidità e con il terreno fangoso devo camminare molto lentamente, la temperatura si aggira intorno ai 12 gradi, è ancora bassa e molti animali non hanno ancora iniziato il loro ciclo vitale. I gechi verrucosi hanno incominciato lentamente ad uscire dalle tane, vivono tra le fenditure nel muro di una piccola capanna abbandonata, è una zona con tante specie di insetti e il cibo non gli manca. Questo posto è molto sicuro per loro, non ci sono predatori e il tetto li protegge anche dalla pioggia; li ho fotografati molte volte durante i temporali. Sono molto diffidenti ed è molto difficile avvicinarmi per fotografarli, ogni anno dalla primavera all'autunno mi apposto lì vicino e li osservo per ore. In queste settimane ho visto alcuni esemplari adulti e anche un paio di piccoli che uscivano fuori incuriositi ad esplorare la natura. Qualche giorno fa ho incontrato questo esemplare dalla colorazione molto particolare, era rosa con delle macchie più scure sul dorso. Durante i miei appostamenti ho osservato tantissimi gechi con colorazioni molto differenti: ne ho visti alcuni con tonalità rosa, altri più gialli o arancioni e altri ancora con macchie marroni. I gechi verrucosi hanno una particolare capacità: possono cambiare le tonalità e l'intensità dei colori per mimetizzarsi meglio con l'ambiente in cui vivono.
