Una folla enorme si è radunata questa mattina a Porta San Paolo per la festa del 25 aprile. Dopo l'annuncio dell'armistizio l'8 settembre 1943, Roma si ritrovò abbandonata a se stessa. L'esercito italiano e decine di civili provarono a resistere a Roma, a Porta San Paolo, per poi capitolare: i tedeschi occuparono la città. La battaglia di Porta San Paolo è considerata il vero e proprio esordio della Resistenza italiana che culminò con l'insurrezione vittoriosa del 25 aprile 1945.
