Lo scorso anno a luglio durante 5 giorni di esplorazione ho incontrato molte volte la mantide religiosa e sono riuscito a fotografarla di notte, all'alba e al tramonto. A causa del forte caldo il terreno è tutto secco e c'è pochissima vegetazione, con la sua ultima muta ha cambiato colore da verde a marrone chiaro per mimetizzarsi meglio con l'ambiente secco. La mantide durante la crescita compie 6 mute, durante le quali aumenta la dimensione, sviluppa le ali e l'apparato riproduttivo, se necessario può cambiare colore a seconda dell'ambiente: verde quando si trova in zone umide con molta vegetazione, marrone quando si trova in ambienti secchi e aridi. L'ho incontrata alle 2 di notte durante il primo giorno, era posata su un ramo secco del suo stesso colore, le ho fatto qualche scatto ma ho preferito aspettare il sorgere del sole per fotografarla con uno sfondo colorato. Al crepuscolo l'ho trovata ancora ferma nello stesso posto e sono rimasto lì ad osservarla in attesa della luce adatta per fotografare. Dopo più di due ore di attesa, ho approfittato della mancanza di vento per fare questo scatto ravvicinato con 200mm e tubi di prolunga, come sfondo ho sfruttato il terreno arido circostante che illuminato dal sole creava queste sfumature gialle. La mantide è stata sempre molto collaborativa, attirata dai miei movimenti spesso si è girata verso di me a guardarmi con la sua testa che può ruotare fino a 180 gradi. In quei giorni mentre la fotografavo non si è mai infastidita ed ha continuato a svolgere le sue attività, l'ho vista anche cacciare.
