Fine agosto 2022, quella notte era molto umida e stava per piovere, come al solito ero nel sottobosco in cerca di piccoli animali. Il terreno era a tratti arido e a tratti erboso, dovevo stare molto attento a camminare nell'erba per non schiacciare lumache, ragni e falene che lentamente uscivano dalle tane. Dopo aver fotografato alcune specie, ho notato nel terreno incolto questo insetto e ho potuto osservare la deposizione delle uova. La Tettigonia viridissima è un ortottero abbastanza comune nel mio terreno, ha abitudini sia diurne che notturne, si nutre principalmente di altri insetti come bruchi, larve e mosche, raramente mangia anche vegetali. La sua particolarità è il canto prodotto dallo sfregamento delle ali composto da 2 sillabe, un tintinnio continuo e molto forte emesso solo dal maschio nelle ore notturne per attirare una femmina con cui accoppiarsi. Questo canto mi accompagna sempre durante le esplorazioni notturne, ma è difficile osservare questa specie perché si nasconde molto bene tra gli alberi e se disturbata scappa saltando con le lunghe zampe posteriori. La femmina possiede l'ovopositore, un organo a punta che le permette di scavare un buco nel terreno e deporvi le uova. Il tempo per la schiusa varia da un anno e mezzo fino a cinque anni, la neanide è molto simile all'adulto ed effettua molte mute, durante le quali sviluppa le ali e l'apparato riproduttivo. La deposizione delle uova è un momento molto delicato e faticoso per la femmina, non mi sono avvicinato molto e dopo averla osservata per qualche minuto ho proseguito il mio cammino per non disturbarla.
