Un giorno di inizio dicembre. Sono vicino a Varese per lavoro, ho un'oretta e mezza di pausa pranzo. Mi nutro al rinomato ristorante De Donaldi presso lo stadio: panino Croccante con carne di manzo pancetta e insalata, patatine fritte con salsa agrodolce di pomodoro -vietatissima-, acqua… sì, lo so, è dannosa alla salute, si rischia di annegare ma devo guidare quindi niente alcool. Mentre mi abbandono alle raffinatezze dell'alta cucina mi casca l'occhio fuori dalla finestra: oltre la strada, oltre il cemento dello stadio, laggiù in fondo si erge l'altura del Sacro Monte -un luogo in cui fede, natura, architettura, arte, memorie e castagne si danno convegno- e, nonostante l'uggiosa giornata di malinconica luce velata, dietro la diafana tenda di nubi e foschia ancora insistono i colori dell'autunno morituro, prima della livida sepoltura dell'inverno. Sopraffatto dal languido fascino dell'autunno terminale e avendo per puro caso e quasi senza pensarci infilato nello zaino una fotocamera con zoom, concludo il pasto senza caffè (ché tanto ormai gradisco solo quello della moka) e spendo il tempo libero residuo sull'acciottolato della santa collina.
