Da Italia Parchi: Il poetico parco naturalistico delle Fonti del Clitunno si estende su una superficie di quasi 10.000 mq lungo la via Flaminia fra Spoleto e Foligno, nel comune di Campello sul Clitunno. In origine le acque erano tanto abbondanti da confluire in un grande fiume che gli antichi Romani navigavano per raggiungere la Capitale dell'impero. Le Fonti del Clitunno erano al tempo considerate sorgenti sacre, luoghi di culto dedicati al Dio Giove Clitunno, personificazione dell'omonimo fiume, in nome del quale furono costruiti diversi tempietti. Nel V secolo d.C un grave terremoto distrusse parte delle Fonti, ridimensionando l'ingente apporto d'acqua originale. Tuttavia, il Parco assunse il suo aspetto attuale solo nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento, per opera del conte Paolo Campello della Spina, il quale riorganizzò gli spazi, introdusse gli abitanti animali del Parco e creò il magico laghetto.
