Habitat Prati, ampie radure e margini dei boschi dal livello del mare sino a 2000 m. Periodo di volo Univoltina da metà maggio ad agosto secondo l'altitudine e l'andamento stagionale. Pianta alimentare dei bruchi Varie graminacee dei generi Poa, Agrostis, Aira, Hordeum e Lolium. Dimorfismo sessuale Sul diritto la femmina è vistosamente diversa dal maschio, ha una colorazione più chiara e ampie aree fulve sulle ali anteriori che mettono in evidenza l'ocello apicale. Variazioni Sul rovescio delle ali posteriori possono mancare gli ocelli e il disegno può essere più o meno evidente. Specie simili Maniola nurag di dimensioni minori e nei maschi con zone fulve sul diritto dell'ala posteriore. Nelle femmine Maniola nurag è più chiara e con il bordo delle ali posteriori poco dentellato. Hyponephele lycaon e Hyponephele lupina da cui si distingue nei maschi per il bordo delle ali poco dentellato, per la presenza dell'anello chiaro nitido attorno agli ocelli e per la zona androconiale molto scura ed estesa; nelle femmine per la presenza di un solo ocello. In entrambi i sessi il disegno del rovescio delle ali posteriori appare più screziato in H. lycaon e H.lupina, mentre è più uniforme e a volte con presenza di ocelli in M. jurtina.
