A pochi metri da Campo de' Fiori c'è un passaggio semi nascosto che mette in comunicazione Piazza del Biscione con Via di Grotta Pinta: è il Passetto del Biscione. All'epoca romana collegava la cavea del Teatro di Pompeo con l'esterno. Un tempo vi era custodita l'edicola della Madonna della Divina Provvidenza del Pulzone, oggi conservata nella chiesa di San Carlo ai Catinari, nei pressi di via Arenula. Sotto il Passetto venne collocata, quindi, un'altra Madonnella, la Madonna del Latte, che divenne presto oggetto di grande venerazione popolare e che fu una delle sacre immagini che mossero gli occhi e piansero, si disse, a causa dell'invasione francese dello Stato Pontificio. Dopo il prodigio, l'icona fu portata in chiesa per consentire i lavori di ristrutturazione del Passetto “a forma di Cappella” ed al suo posto si alternarono numerose altre immagini sacre che, purtroppo, per la maleducazione della gente e l'incuria venivano sistematicamente danneggiate o rubate. Qui è nato il detto romano “cerca' Maria pe' Roma”, equivalente all'espressione “cercare un ago in un pagliaio”, proprio dall'estrema difficoltà dei fedeli a rintracciare la Madonna, talmente nascosta all'interno del Passetto che trovarla risultava quasi impossibile. Fino al 2016, il Passetto era ridotto ad un angolo buio, sporco e maleodorante. Da quell'anno, esso fu oggetto di un lungo restauro e oggi si presenta in tutta la bellezza dei suoi intonaci, dei suoi affreschi e della nuova Madonna della Divina Provvidenza, grazie ad una copia dell'originale realizzata dall'artista Raffaella Curti.
