Riposto questa foto di qualche tempo fa, con la didascalia di allora, in omaggio alla vittoria di oggi, 28 ottobre 2023, degli Springboks nella Coppa del Mondo di Rugby. Per la quarta volta. Come loro nessuno mai. Non si può comprendere cosa questo sport rappresenti per il Sudafrica se non riconoscendogli il grande valore simbolico ed unificante dopo gli anni bui dell' apartheid… Amo molto questo paese. Credo sia evidente… “Sembrano schierati per una partita di rugby (e, curiosamente, sono 15 come i giocatori…) questi Springbok o antilopi saltanti che avanzano nell'erba alta e dorata del Kgalagadi. E' questa l'impressione che mi hanno dato quando li ho visti arrivare. Lo Springbok è I'animale simbolo del Sudafrica e da' il nome alla sua leggendaria nazionale di rugby, tre volte vincitrice della Coppa del Mondo. La prima, nel 1995, e' passata alla storia, anche per il suo significato simbolico. Il Sudafrica era uscito dall' “apartheid” solo un anno prima. Presidente era Mandela, che riuscì a coagulare intorno alla squadra di rugby, lo sport dei bianchi, la passione e la voglia di riscatto di un intero paese. Sembrava la nascita di quella “nazione arcobaleno” che Mandela sognava. Le cose, poi, non sono andate proprio così, ma è stato bello sognare… “
