Colonia sorge sulle sponde del Reno ed è la quarta città più grande della Germania. La sua storia secolare contribuisce a creare il caratteristico fascino della città, dove cattedrali e mercati antichi si mescolano a edifici e uffici moderni. È una rinomata località turistica, ma anche un centro commerciale e mediatico. La sua fama mondiale è legata alla nota Acqua di Colonia, prodotta qui a partire dal 1709. Colonia è stata una delle località più bombardate durante il conflitto, ma è stata anche oggetto di un'attenta opera di ricostruzione.
