Questa famosa immagine… facente parte di una serie scattata nel 1980… ritrae “il Drake”... il costruttore Enzo Anselmo Giuseppe Maria Ferrari (Modena 1898 - 1988)... in piacevole compagnia di uno dei piloti più amati e tutt'ora ricordati e celebrati: il canadese Gilles Joseph Henri Villeneuve "L'Aviatore". All'epoca di questo scatto il conduttore canadese… che gareggiava con il n. 2… era insieme al sudafricano Jody Scheckter uno dei piloti delle Ferrari 312 T5… vetture iscritte al Campionato Mondiale di Formula 1 1980… e progettate dall'ingegnere Mauro Forghieri. Nato nella provincia del Quebec… il 18 gennaio 1950… Gilles aveva iniziato la sua carriera agonistica gareggiando assieme a suo fratello Jacques Joseph Villeneuve Sr da prima sulle motoslitte... cosa questa che gli farà guadagnare l'appellativo di "L'Aviatore" e passando poi alle gare di accelerazione. In seguito divenne un'abile conduttore sulle monoposto a ruote scoperte in gare minori. Nel 1977... dopo un'unica gara su una Mc Laren M 23 motorizzata Ford Cosworth iniziò a gareggiare sulle Ferrari di F 1 e condurrà codeste vetture fino a sabato 8 maggio 1982 quando... in serata... perse la vita… a seguito di un'uscita di pista avvenuta poco prima delle ore 14:00… dopo che la sua Ferrari 126 C2 era entrata in collisione con la March 821 n. 17 motorizzata Ford Cosworth DFV condotta dal tedesco Jochen Mass… sul circuito belga di Zolder durante le qualifiche per il Gran Premio che si sarebbe svolto il giorno dopo. La sua vettura portava in quell'anno... e per la seconda volta... il n. 27 che insieme al n. 28 rimasero sulle Ferrari di Formula 1 fino al 1995... salvo qualche rara eccezione. La 126 C2... progettata dagli ingegneri Mauro Forghieri e Harvey Postlethwaite... sarà l'ultima Ferrari di F 1 dotata di minigonne per l'effetto suolo (sviluppate nella galleria del vento della Pininfarina) in quanto verranno abolite l'anno dopo. La fotografia qui visibile fu scattata da uno dei fratelli Piccinini… Giancarlo e Pietro... e probabilmente utilizzando una fotocamera Hasselblad 500... all'epoca titolari della prestigiosa e di fama mondiale agenzia fotografica motoristica bolognese Attualfoto… in tempi più recenti rinominata Actualfoto da Roberto... figlio di Giancarlo. Io... che nella loro agenzia entrai quasi per caso... e dove appresi tutti i più importanti rudimenti dell'arte fotografica motoristica partendo praticamente da zero la ho riprodotta… solamente per postarla qui su Juza Photo… mentre era esposta a Nonantola di Modena dove presso il Museo Cantina Giacobazzi Gavioli si è tenuta… dal 14 maggio al 31 luglio 2022… la mostra “Gilles 40 sulle Ali del Vento”.
