Più vicino? Anche no, grazie. Non c'era più di un metro e mezzo, forse due, tra me e questa femmina di ghepardo che, con con le sue due figlie “adolescenti”, aveva deciso di attraversare il letto secco del fiume Nossob nel Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, che si sviluppa tra Sudafrica e Botswana, per raggiungere la strada. Agli animali piace seguire le strade. Lo fanno spesso quando si spostano. Vedono meglio e più lontano. Così, i tre sono sbucati dall'erba alta e ce li siamo trovati a pochi metri di distanza. Questa splendida femmina ci è passata accanto, con un'occhiata ha “valutato” il tetto della macchina come possibile punto di osservazione e deciso che non andava bene. Per un indimenticabile attimo ha guardato dentro la macchina e i nostri occhi si sono incrociati. Poi ha deciso di proseguire…
