Al centro una Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California con alla sua destra l'attore newyorkese Frank Frank Anthony Grillo nei panni di Ferruccio Lamborghini con a fianco il regista Robert "Bobby" Moresco... pure lui nativo di New York... ed ambedue con origini italiane... sul set del film "Lamborghini - The Man Behind the Legend". Questa immagine fu scattata in Corso del Guercino a Cento (Fe) il 23 settembre 2021. La Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California fu costruita dal 1957 al 1963 in 2 serie… prima a passo lungo poi a passo corto… quest'ultima chiamata SWB (Short Wheel Base)… per un totale di poco più di 100 esemplari. Mentre il progetto della carrozzeria porta la firma della Carrozzeria Pininfarina di Torino… la sua costruzione venne invece affidata alla Carrozzeria di Sergio Scaglietti a Modena. Il valore di questa vettura… sul mercato del collezionismo… pare abbia già abbondantemente superato gli 11 milioni di dollari. Oltre ad altre vetture… di altri costruttori… Ferruccio Lamborghini prediligeva possedere e guidare le automobili costruite a Maranello ed in particolare una Ferrari Coupé 250 GT 2+2 Pininfarina di colore rosso… una vettura che venne costruita dal 1960 al 1963 in circa 950 esemplari. Dopo aver riscontrato alcuni inconvenienti su questa vettura nel 1962 Ferruccio si recò di proposito a Maranello dove incontrò Enzo Ferrari al quale riferì… fra altre cose a suo dire migliorabili sulle vetture del Nero Cavallino Rampante… che la frizione della 250 GT non era degna di una simile vettura in quanto richiedeva troppo spesso della manutenzione. Pare che il Drake non prese troppo bene tale racconto e come risposta disse a Ferruccio che era meglio continuasse ad occuparsi dei suoi trattori mentre a costruire vetture sportive avrebbe invece pensato lui. Dall' esito di quell' incontro fra i due scese un silenzio che non verrà mai più interrotto ed in Ferruccio prese forza il desiderio di costruirsela lui un'automobile sportiva e così di lì a poco iniziò la grande avventura della Lamborghini Automobili: al Salone di Torino del 1963 venne presentata la Lamborghini 350 GTV (un unico esemplare costruito) seguita poi dalle 350/400 GT, dalla Islero e dalla Jarama finché… nel 1966… vide la luce quella che negli anni a venire diventerà la vettura più famosa costruita da Ferruccio: la Lamborghini Miura.
