Torino Parco del Valentino. La Fontana dei Mesi è l'unico elemento architettonico ancora esistente dell'ampio apparato di edifici costruiti per l'Esposizione Generale Italiana del 1898, organizzata a Torino per celebrare il cinquantenario dello Statuto Albertino. Secondo una vocazione che si stava consolidando dopo l'Esposizione del 1884, il luogo prescelto per ospitare la manifestazione fu il parco del Valentino e il prestigioso compito di progettare i padiglioni fu affidato a Carlo Ceppi (1829-1921). Architetto di grande importanza nell'ambiente culturale torinese, di Ceppi si ricordano il progetto dell'imponente edificio della stazione di Porta Nuova (elaborato con Alessandro Mazzucchetti) e diversi palazzi signorili del centro. Mentre gli altri edifici dell'Esposizione vennero costruiti in legno, gesso e tela, la Fontana dei Mesi ebbe una struttura permanente, costruita in “moderno” cemento. Si tratta di un'ampia fontana luminosa ornata da quattro gruppi statuari raffiguranti i fiumi torinesi (Po, Dora, Sangone, Stura) e da dodici statue femminili raffiguranti i mesi dell'anno. La critica la considera “una riuscita sintesi fra Eclettismo accademico ed apertura alle novità stilistiche e tecniche”.
