Famiglia Pieridae Apertura alare: Da 3,8 a 5 cm. Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni ad eccezione della Sardegna e della Sicilia meridionale. Habitat: Prati, ampie radure dal livello del mare sino a 1700 m. Periodo di volo Polivoltina da marzo ad aprile, da giugno a luglio e da settembre a ottobre. Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie crucifere. Dimorfismo sessuale: Femmina con due macchie nere nella zona mediana dell'ala anteriore, mentre nei maschi ve ne è una sola e a volte molto piccola. Variazioni: Gli esemplari delle generazioni estive presentano, sul rovescio delle ali posteriori, una notevole riduzione dei tratti scuri che marcano le nervature, ma una colorazione gialla più accentuata.
