L'affascinante città di Pietrasanta, di origine medievale, è da considerare il capoluogo storico della Versilia e la capitale della lavorazione artistica del Marmo. Centro di attrazione per artisti di tutto il mondo la città negli ultimi decenni si è trasformata in un vero e proprio museo a cielo aperto in cui ammirare, tra le tante gallerie e le piazze della cittadina, una rassegna ininterrotta e continuamente rinnovata di arte contemporanea e scultura di altissimo livello. La città si è guadagnata il soprannome di Piccola Atene grazie alla concentrazione di artisti che hanno deciso negli anni di stabilirsi qui, tra i più noti degli ultimi decenni vale la pena ricordare almeno Igor Mitoraj e Fernando Botero. Tra le tante sculture permanenti che si possono ammirare passeggiando per la città ricordiamo il Guerriero di Botero e il Centauro e l'Annunciazione di Mitoraj.
