Thank you for comments.
The photo - just one in a long line - I took it in 2010 in Sicily, an island that is home to the largest population of the European Lanner Falcon (Falco biarmicus feldeggii).
The breeding site, to respond to Alchie, consisted of a nearly vertical wall, which, however, the following year did not prevent unscrupulous poachers to take the chicks, "placed", in all likelihood, on the illegal market of falconry (because of its rarity, the Lanner reaches prices much higher than the Pilgrim). The result? Since last year, the site is occupied by a pair of ravens and falcons were untraceable.
The looting of the litter is a serious threat to the conservation of this magnificent bird of prey, whose population is declining even to natural causesral. For three years, some environmental groups, gathered under the banner of Coordination for the Protection of Birds of Prey in Sicily, are engaged in an extensive monitoring and control of the sites most at risk, supported by a large group of volunteers (of which I am one).

If we think that many of them stand as champions of nature we understand that the situation is not so rosy. Open all eyes when we become aware of them (sad for me) falconry. If you have an inkling that something is not "lawful" or even if you have the only question that can not be reporting to do forest rangers and make sure that there is a CITES control. So who is in good standing is not afraid of these controls but the dregs-falconers poachers (lego the two words do not do the whole lump) must have it below.
