Le Havre - Museo André Malraux "Dal 1882 al 1885 Sisley esplorò le rive del fiume Loing. Tra Moret, borgo medievale di campagna e Saint- Mammès, rinomate per la cantieristica e i mestieri tradizionali. Nel 1885, il gruppo di case vicino alle chiuse attirò la sua attenzione e gli fornì il motivo per un certo numero di composizioni simili ad una serie. Sisley ha esplorato sistematicamente l'area, facendo schizzi nei suoi taccuini e registrando dettagli tecnici. Nonostante l'ambiguità del titolo, il Maestro sembra essersi posizionato all'esatta confluenza del fiume e della Senna, sulla riva del Loing, con lo sguardo che spazia sul fiume e sulla piccola città. Nel maestoso primo piano della barca, vero e proprio spazio di astrazione, l'artista proietta l'ombra delle nuvole in tocchi liberi ed energici, come su una tavolozza di colori. Ogni piano ha il suo tocco caratteristico: le pennellate vivaci e sontuose della riva, i blocchi di colore strutturati delle case, la vibrante leggerezza delle piante e la trasparenza del cielo."
