Con il percorso a ritroso del tour guidato al Duomo siamo arrivati alle terrazze panoramiche da dove si può ammirare una prospettiva diversa della cupola. Nei singoli spicchi dell'ottagono si notano buche dall'alto in basso, ciascuna di sezione quadrata di un braccio per un braccio e misuranti la lunghezza di sei braccia, hanno una specifica funzione, "il respiro segreto del Cupolone".Una delle cose più straordinarie è che la cupola, costituita da due calotte l'una dentro l'altra, è lei stessa un elemento di autoregolamentazione come lo sono oggi i doppi vetri delle finestre.
