Proprio appena fuori la città di Venosa, conosciuta per aver dato i natali ad Orazio, sorge il Complesso della Santissima Trinità dove un tempo c'era il centro politico ed economico della città. In questo complesso monumentale potrete trovare una meravigliosa Chiesa incompiuta che sorge dietro la Chiesa Antica. Per la costruzione dell'edificio vennero utilizzati materiali provenienti da monumenti di svariate civiltà presenti in quel territorio. I lavori iniziarono nel corso del 1110 quando venne deciso di creare un altro grande luogo per contenere tutti i fedeli. La struttura venne edificata su un edificio paleocristiano risalente al V – VI secolo. I benedettini che sovvenzionarono i lavori furono costretti ad abbandonare Venosa a causa della soppressione del loro Monastero per volere del papa Bonifacio VIII. La realizzazione del complesso venne affidata ai Cavalieri dell'Ordine dell'Ospedale di San Giovanni di Gerusalemme, che non riuscirono a completare il nuovo impianto monastico. L'ingresso è sormontato da un arco semicircolare, evidenzia una lunetta decorata da una iscrizione che chiede la protezione di Dio sul Tempio e sui monaci, nonché la pace dello spirito e del corpo. Sopra la lunetta si trova l'agnello con la croce, ovvero il simbolo dell'Ordine dei Cavalieri di Malta. All'interno dell'Incompiuta, si trovano varie opere e ornamenti che appartenevano all'Anfiteatro Romano, come l'epigrafe della scuola gladiatoria di Salvio Capitone. Si possono ammirare vari bassorilievi come la Stele Funeraria dei Cinna, famiglia del console romano Lucio Cornelio Cinna e il Gruppo di tre Vipere, iconografia longobarda. Incompiuta di Venosa resta l'unico caso visibile di un fenomeno che normalmente si verificava con la costruzione di una chiesa nuova: si lasciava in piedi la prima fino al momento in cui la nuova non era pronta per accogliere le celebrazioni.
