Se per gli italiani è fico d'India, per i greci è fico dei franchi. Fragkosyko è proprio il fico d'India, la pianta che ha attecchito così bene nel sud dei nostri paesi da sembrare che si tratti di pianta autoctona e millenaria. Millenaria e autoctona è, ma in Messico da dove è arrivata e si è inserita perfettamente nei nostri paesaggi caldi e secchi. Il Peloponneso e soprattutto la regione di Mani è piena di fichi d'india, personalmente ho cominciato ad apprezzarli sin da piccola, perché ce n'erano e ci sono ancora nella campagna dei miei nonni. All'epoca non avevano un mercato e quindi si avevano scarse possibilità di trovarli, a meno che non arrivassero come regalo da qualche amico o parente paesano. Negli ultimissimi anni me li trovo sotto gli occhi ovunque. Al mercato, al supermarket, dal fruttivendolo….. Ovunque vada trovo fichi d'india, sfusi o nelle vaschette. Resistere alla loro bellezza arcaica e primitiva non è facile, ed è per questo che non appena ho visto questi fichi d'India qui ad Acharavi (Corfù), non ho resistito alla tentazione di fare click. ---------- Grazie mille come sempre agli amici che lasceranno un gradito segno del loro passaggio.
