Il castello di Poppi è considerato il simbolo, non solo di questo paese, ma dell'intero Casentino. E' infatti visibile da buona parte di questa valle in provincia di Arezzo. Fu edificato tra la fine del XII e gli inizi del XIV secolo dalla nobile famiglia dei Guidi. Osservato dagli antistanti giardini (foto di copertina) ci comunica la forza della sua possente struttura in pietra nonché l'eleganza della sua forma d'insieme e di alcuni suoi elementi architettonici quali la torre, i merli e le finestre bifore ornate di stemmi gentilizi. Data l'asimmetria stilistica con cui si presenta la sua facciata vengono citati due architetti, ma senza riscontri storici documentati, per il progetto del castello: Lapo di Cambio prima e Arnolfo di Cambio poi. Quest'ultimo avrebbe utilizzato il Castello di Poppi, in particolare la torre, come prototipo per la realizzazione di Palazzo Vecchio a Firenze.
