Il ponte Vittorio Emanuele III di San Mauro, denominato ponte “vecchio”, fu inaugurato il giorno 8 settembre 1912. Costruito 50 metri più a valle del ponte di barche, entrò a far parte del rilievo fisico del territorio. È lungo 257 metri, largo 8 ed è composto di 8 arcate a 20 metri l'una dall'altra. I rivestimenti delle fronti e dei fianchi sono in mattoni . Il ponte fu costruito, inizialmente, per collegare la zona Bertolla, sulla sponda sinistra, con il centro della città. Il ponte vecchio è il simbolo di San Mauro e rappresenta, realmente e idealmente, l'unione tra le due sponde opposte, facilitando le comunicazioni. Il ponte diventa così testimonianza storica e luogo di ritrovo. Oggi il ponte vecchio, in seguito alla costruzione a pochi metri di distanza del cosiddetto ponte “nuovo” ha perso la funzione di ponte per i trasporti, ha invece acquistato il ruolo della piazza, ovvero area pedonale di ritrovo e pista ciclabile, una sorta di lungomare fluviale.
