Tutte le foto sono coperte da copyright. In Danimarca, nel nord della penisola dello Jutland, c'è un vecchio faro chiamato Rubjerg Knude. Il faro è alto 23 metri, è stato costruito nel 1899 e inaugurato nel 1900, ma ormai da diversi anni è inattivo. Quando fu costruito, il faro si trovava a circa 200 metri dal mare, ma negli anni l'erosione della costa ha accorciato sempre di più questa distanza. Per evitare che l'erosione potesse far crollare il faro – cosa che secondo le previsioni degli esperti sarebbe potuta avvenire entro il 2023 – si è deciso di spostarlo di 70 metri verso l'entroterra. Per farlo è stata studiata un'operazione dal costo complessivo di 5 milioni di corone danesi (circa 670mila euro), allo scopo di salvarlo. Il faro, pesante 720 tonnellate, è stato sollevato dalla base e spostato lungo due rotaie costruite per questo scopo. Lo spostamento è durato in tutto 10 ore, con il faro che è stato trasportato a una velocità media di circa 8 metri all'ora. Il faro e le suggestive dune di sabbia che lo circondano attirano ogni anno circa 250mila turisti da tutto il mondo.
