delle oltre mille chiese in legno si sono conservate, anche grazie ad interventi strutturali solo 28 stavkirke- il nome deriva da "stav" palo di sostegno e kirke (chiesa) - alcune sono antiche di quasi 1.000 anni e sono testimonianze del periodo medioevale e anche antecedente- questa di Gol si trova nella municipalità di Oslo e riporta decori vichinghi come la maggior parte di esse- alcune hanno le tombe adiacenti dei piccoli abitati che le circondano - sono costruite solo rigorosamente in legno, tetto compreso -
