La Porsche 904 Carrera GTS venne costruita in 116 esemplari dal 1963 ad inizio 1965. Dotata di un motore boxer con 4 cilindri di 1966 cm3 (Type 547) erogante 180 cavalli di potenza poteva raggiungere una velocità suporiore ai 280 chilometri orari. Il motore era in posizione centrale posteriore mentre per contenere il peso la carrozzeria era in vetroresina. Successivamente alcuni esemplari furono dotati di motori a 6 (904/6) e ad 8 cilindri (904/8). Fu vittoriosa in molte competizioni fra cui la 24 Ore di LeMans, la 24 Ore di Reims, la 1000 Chilometri del Nurburgring e la Targa Florio. Sul mercato collezionistico il prezzo delle vetture ancora circolanti sta salendo ed è arrivato a sfiorare i 2 milioni di euro.
