Coenonympha gardetta (Prunner, 1798) - Famiglia Nymphalidae - Sottofamiglia Satyrinae - Apertura alare: Da 2,5 a 3,2 cm. - Distribuzione in Italia: Presente solo sulle Alpi. - Habitat: Praterie alpine e subalpine da 1000 a 2500 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da metà giugno a metà agosto secondo la quota. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Varie graminacee tra cui quelle dei generi Melica, Poa, Festuca, ecc. - Dimorfismo sessuale: La femmina di dimensioni leggermente maggiori e più chiara. - Variazioni: Esistono popolazioni con il diritto delle ali simile a quello di C. darwiniana ed altre, più estreme, con velatura scura accentuata sempre sul diritto delle ali, mentre sul rovescio delle ali posteriori hanno la parte basale, normalmente di colorazione fulva, sostituita da una tonalità grigioverde. Specie simili: Coenonympha darwiniana da cui si distingue per il rovescio delle ali posteriori che presenta tutti gli ocelli all'interno della banda bianca, con distanziatura uniforme e senza alcun contorno fulvo bordato di scuro.
