il piccolo aeroporto di Lukla a quota 2.800 m è la base di avvicinamento al campo base dell'Everest - è stato inaugurato nel 1965 in memoria dei primi salitori del Sagarmatha (il nome originale della montagna più alta della terra, 8.848 m) - nel 1953 il neozelandese Edmund Hillary e lo sherpa Tenzing Norgay raggiungono la vetta per la prima volta- Sagarmatha il cui significato è dimora della dea madre della terra è stato anche il mio obiettivo attraverso un grande giro in quota, passando dalla valle di Gokyo e attraverso un valico di oltre 5.400 m (Chola-pass) quindi nella valle del Kumbhu (la valle degli Sherpa) - Sherpa è un'etnia e significa uomini dell'est- sono infatti venuti dal Tibet attraverso un valico altissimo.
