La Rosa canina L. , comunemente chiamata Rosa selvatica, appartiene alla famiglia delle Rosaceae ed è diffusa in tutta Italia dal livello del mare sino, nell'ambiente alpino, intorno ai 1.900 m. slm . L'origine del nome generico è incerta e potrebbe derivare dal latino “rosa” che, a sua volta, deriverebbe dal greco “rhòdon”, oppure dal sanscrito “vrad o vrod” , che significa flessibile o dal celtico “rhood” che significa rosso. Il nome specifico deriva dal greco “Kynosbator”, dove Kynos = cane e Batos = arbusto spinoso, in relazione all'uso che si faceva un tempo della radice per curare la rabbia. Scatto effettuato nel mese di Maggio 2021 nella campagna varesina.
