Terzo step del percorso verso la cima tra misticità e natura. Poco oltre metà percorso verso la cima del Monte Penna la vegetazione lascia spazio alla vista dello strapiombo nell'orlo del quale stiamo camminando. Oltre ad un ampio panorama notiamo un grande scoglio che sembra stare come per miracolo sull'orlo del precipizio. E' detto "Masso di Fra' Lupo", questo è il motivo: si dice che al tempo di Francesco d'Assisi abitasse nella foresta della Verna un terribile uomo chiamato Brigante Lupo. Un giorno San Francesco incontrò il feroce brigante proprio vicino a questo grande masso e con parole di pace e amore lo convertì. Da quel momento si chiamò Fra' Lupo, secondo altre fonti Frate Agnello.
