La Gentiana bavarica L., comunemente chiamata Genziana bavarese, appartiene alla famiglia delle Gentianaceae ed è diffusa in tutto l'arco alpino a quote elevate, dai 1.800 m. slm. sino alla base delle nevi. Il nome deriva dal latino latino "gentiana"= "genziana ; secondo Plinio deve il suo nome da Gentius rex Illyriorum (167 a.c.) che per primo scoprì le sue proprietà medicinali. Lo stesso Plinio e Dioscoride lo cansigliavano contro i morsi dei serpenti e dei ragni. L'epiteto del genere ricorda che il suo areale di scoperta fu la regione tedesca della Baviera. Il fiore è ricco di principi attivi e di zuccheri ed è da sempre usato in erboristeria così come le radici, molto amare, che sono utilizzate per preparare degli infusi alcolici che hanno la proprietà di facilitare la digestione. Lo scatto è stato effettuato nel mese di Luglio 2019 nei pressi della Cima Garibaldi (Dreisprachenspitze, Cima delle tre lingue) a circa 2.840 m. slm., un poco sopra al Passo dello Stelvio, nel punto in cui si incontrano i confini della Lombardia, dove si parla italiano, dell'Alto Adige, dove si parla tedesco, e della Svizzera romancia, dove si parla, appunto, il romancio (lingua romanza molto simile al ladino).
